Excursion to National Park 'Coto de Doñana'

On Thursday Afternoon, there will be a excursion to the National Park 'Coto de Doñana'.

Donana is situated in the delta area of the Guadalquivir south of Sevilla. The area has a rich biodiversity and consists of sandy areas with despersed depressions and a flat brackish marshy plain. For a long time this area was planned to be reclaimed for agriculture like the left bank of the Guadalquivir. During the pilot phase the decision was made to give priority to nature. In 1998 the burst of a giant holding pool for wastewater from the Aznarcollar mine remained long time an ecologiical threat for the area.  See also http://www.donana-nature.com/.

The excursion  has been introduced with a presentation from Prof. Francisco Garcia Novo, Prof. of Ecology in the Seville University on Wednesday (18.00h) (see presentation by clicking on this link).
