Stakeholder and Public Participation in Water Management: Furnishing insights and recommendations from practice and research and asking new questions

Participation is on the rise in water management. However, many practitioners and researchers are still wondering about how to implement participation and what kind of results to expect. This session offers insights from the projects NeWater and AquaStress with a focused on:

  • How to use participation in conflict situations and in various cultural and political contexts;
  • How learning can be derived from participation and measured.
  • How to do participatory modelling

The session will be interactive: We will first collect your discussion and learning interests, then focus on these in the discussion while making research knowledge available. We will conclude by reflecting on further challenges for practice and research.

Detailed session description

Objectives are:

  • Offer a space for learning on participatory water management
  • Make available a part of the knowledge (according to the needs of the participants) generated by the SP
  • Get an idea where other practitioners and researchers stand with regard to participatory water management
  • Clarify open questions for research and practice

 The session's presentation can be found here.
